Fighting for the rights of PWDs in IL
No easy task from a wheelchair, but IMPRUVE is determined to win the fight for improved paratransit services and carry the banner for 50,000 in IL and other paratransit riders across the nation. For fifteen years, IMPRUVE has stood on the front lines of paratransit organizing. Worked with CTA in 2004, then Pace in 2006 to negotiate improved services. Then sued Pace in 2007, settled in 2012. Now wants to follow the demands of the riders to return paratransit to CTA until paratransit riders can take over and make the service green with affordable fares and jobs to lift PWDs, senior, ex-offenders and youth out of poverty who qualify to work the positions and want to work. Priority for entrepreneurship or jobs will be PWDs.
Currently working in 2015 to prevent fare from being raised from $3 per ride to $5, which is unacceptable and would literally kill some people and cause catastrophic health issues for those who cannot pay the $5 to get to regular healthcare for cancer treatment, rehab therapy, medical fitness, dialysis, infrared treatment, cardiac rehab, diabetes care, etc.
Without accessible transportation that is usable and affordable, staying at home might lead to deteriorating symptoms of poor health or disability. Thus, for good health for PWDs (persons who are disabled), it is critical to have access to transportation to also get to other doctor appointments, work, school, social events, human services appointments, housing, shopping, etc.

Crack the code for harmony in life as easily as one cracks open a young coconut and drinks the refreshing water; bring order, not more guns or anger to chaos.
Sat. March 14, 2015 marked a turning point in the opinions of voters from the disability and Black communty who came together to hear Rahm Emanuel and Jesus Chuy Garcia deliver their plan for a Black agenda and for paratranist improvements.
Though Chuy may have seemed the favorite in this runoff among Black community and disability leaders, his failure to show after confirming, does not bode well for him.
Rahm is famous for not showing up where he may not be the favorite son. He prefers quick handshakes along the CTA Red LIne whee he can aproach the Blacjk community without engaging in meaningful dialog with them. He didnot show either.
Chuy will have to do better to forge the Black-Mexican connection in this city whose Big Shoulders have atrophied and pushed Blacks and people who ride paratransit off to the side or to the curb to make more room for corporate America and large union interests.
